John O'Brien's 140th Birthday Anniversary - 13th October 2018

Hand in Hand : The Day's End
In front of Patrick Carroll's original painting 'The Little Irish Mother' which was hand delivered to Boree Log Cottage by the artist himself on the day,
This painting was part of a exhibition commemorating the 100th Birthday Anniversary of John O'Brien and launched the publication of the illustrated version of Around the Boree log / a selection from Around the Boree Log and the Parish of St. Mel's by John O'Brien, illustrated by Patrick Carroll, John O'Brien, 1879-1952 . We made sure we got our book signed.
We had just over 40 people visit from far and near to see Robyn Sykes fabulous and entertaining poetry performance. She involved the participation of the audience and even wrote a commemorative poem for the day.
Visitors came all the way from Renmark, SA, Central Coast, NSW as well as from Leeton, Wagga Wagga, Milawa, Darlinghurst and Narranderra and of course all around our Yass and Canberra region too.
The Limerick Collection was on display, over 42 pieces of work and included our very young from Mt Carmel Primary School where John O'Brien (Patrick Hartigan) did his early schooling. There were some special poems on display too from previous inhabitants of the cottage that were especially evocative.
